This area (Central Indiana) was well represented with Oliver Dealers and I
recall many around when I was growing up in the 1950's.
Two of my 3 son-in-laws are sort of close to my age. Both of those
daughters went through two complete loser husbands about their age then
decided that they wanted more mature husbands. (both have been happy with
their 3rd husband) I mention that only because # 2 daughter married a guy
who grew up in a fairly busy Oliver dealership in the 1960's. His dad's
dealership was about 8 miles south west of here and another Oliver dealer
was about 4 miles east of here. About 20 miles to the north in the next
county seat town was an old very busy and high volume Oliver dealer.
You don't see a lot of old Oliver's here today. I have no idea what kind of
sales figures they ran but I knew of quite a few around the community but
I can't think of any right now. I did once own an Oliver 88 Diesel and son
Scott used an Oliver 1755 for a number of years. I don't know where Scott's
1755 ended up but my 88 Diesel was bought by two brothers who were buying
it to make into a puller. They started doing a few things to it and decided
they liked it well enough to drop some money into it for a full restore.
White tractors were fairly common here during their time but I don't see
those here any more.
I once read that a lot of our "orphaned"
tractors were exported to Mexico???
