The Hino site discusses that there haven't been a major entry to the US heavy truck market for some time. Volvo got in by buying white and GMC and later Mack.. Daimler dropped their line and bought freightliner instead.

Caterpillar introduced a line of semi tractors. I still see many of them. These were made by Navistar. When it was time for Caterpillar to start building the product themselves, they drooped the whole line,. wussies

VW owns a controlling interest in Navistar. VW also bought MAN in the recent past. MAN engines are used in some tractors. Will Navistar trucks end up with VW labels on them

Hino is essentially a Toyota brand. Toyota bought Hino in the past and is growing the brand. I will predict that Toyota will prevail and Hino becomes a recognized brand of semi-tractor on the highways. Toyota is already the dominant forklift manufacturer in the US.

Some of the Mercedes Benz engines used in them come from the Detroit Diesel plant in Redford (suburban Detroit), Michigan. The second Daimler Benz north American brand is Western Star. They are a holdover from White Canada.
