This reminds me I have a can of Red Devil Lye in my workshop as once in the distant past we discussed using it with a 5 gallon bucked as a method to remove paint from smaller objects.

Cool. Just a heads up. Double check that label. Electrolysis typically uses washing powder as opposed to lye(though I understand both work).

Thanks Spencer, I think I actually have some Red Devil lye in the shop, from when I tried electrolysis on a rusty part.

You can make your own simple green/purple power using lye and water. That’s basically all those products are, then dyed different colors for branding. Plus you can make it stronger or weaker as needed. Robeic(sp???) has a product that is 100% lye granulates and it is widely available at Lowe’s and tractor supply. Red Devil is the old standby, but I find it’s availability spotty.
Recipes for various strengths and safe mixing instructions are widely available on the Internet. Lye is no joke, so use splash proof goggles and rubber gloves for the mixing.

I've had very good luck with Simple Green. Used in an ultrasonic parts cleaning machine, it does a fantastic job. I would think that with a low pressure tip, you could use it in solution in a pressure washer. You might try going to the Simple Green website and ask them the question about applying with a pressure washer.
Whatever you finally determine that does the best job, be sure to post your results/methods here for the group.

When soaking some engine parts I've really come to like Simple Green. You can get it in a spray bottle as well as jugs. Might spray on and let soak a bit and see how it does.

Hi all,
I have a few pieces of equipment, namely a 72" finish mower and a
brush hog that tend to blow grease out of the vent creating a mess. I'd
like to power wash them, and fill the box with 00 grease (these machines
owe me nothing). Problem is that I do not believe the power washer alone
will do it. Any recommendations for what I could pre-treat the greasy
areas with so the power washer can do a better job. I'm also looking for
something similar to what you find in quarter car washes using the
"pre-soak" selection, it kind of dissolves the dirt, so it rinses away
easier. My tractor sat over the winter in a stall adjacent to our
chicken coop, and it's so dusty, it's hard to even determine what color
it is.
Thanks,
Mike M
