I'm a bit confused by the statement ; " Since the JD 3 point senses off the lower links" They don't. At least not after 1956. The top link is the sensor.

Since the JD 3 point hitch senses off the lower links, it may be that JD was planning to target sales to IH fast Hitch implement owners by saying “Buy a John Deere and use your existing Fast Hitch implements.” IH may have been right.

[Al Jones] It would almost have to be afterward. The Fast Hitch didn't come out until 1953. Interesting to think about what might have been. Since large tractors sense draft off the lower three point links, a Fast Hitch makes a lot of sense in hindsight. It would accomplish what a three point with "quick coupler" does with no add-ons.

[James] Did Deere ask to buy Fast Hitch rights after they already had three point hitch developed in 1953 on the JD 40. Draft and position control.

Maybe it was a backup strategy.

[Al Jones] Of course the funny part is if IH hadn't been so stubborn, and licensed the Fast Hitch to Deere when they asked for it, the three point hitch might just be a footnote in tractor history......
