First, congratulations on 56!! I’m a short timer at 35. And sorry about your pup. For me it’s like losing an appendage. ☹

Just rambling...

I think this area is now about 95% planted but it is currently raining cats and dogs and we have had maybe 2" this evening. I was over by the Ohio line at Richmond IN today and it looks pretty well planted (lots of hills and valleys that drain well) but about 40 miles north of us there are big flat areas that tend to pool badly and stand big shallow 5 acre lakes for weeks. Some of those areas take a drain line about 3 or 4 miles long to drain them, no close creeks. I suspect that there is a lot of water standing up around Portland.

.

I had to put our family dog down this week... We have had her about 15 years.. Somebody had dumped her out and we usually just call the shelter but she was obviously quite smart so we kept her. She did very well until about last year. She was mostly Chow but got bad in the back and hips like a German Shepherd. This year she went almost completely deaf but had learned hand signals quickly but then her vision was slipping. Finally she was becoming a little unstable and we were beginning to worry about her biting someone. The last couple of days we have been trying to adjust to her not being a huge part of our everyday lives. For many years now when we buried a family pet we plant a tree at their grave and the tree then is given the pets name since the pet becomes part of the tree. When I buried her and put the sod back down I left a piece out of the center and planted several sunflowers there. I have a small tulip poplar that I will move to her grave.

.

Today was Diana and my 56th anniversary, I guess it is going to last... :-) Anybody that can live with me for 56 years is special.

.

One of our grandsons got married yesterday. They should be in London by now and Paris in a day or two.

.

While I was typing this son Scott texted me an ad he had ran across for a Farmall Super MTA diesel with fast hitch said to be in good shape, needing paint. The kicker was that the seller was asking $9,200... YIKES!!! :-)

.

The pic of us was taken at the wedding yesterday. I couldn't find a tractor to stand in front of. :-)

Hey Phil, don’t worry about it. Lots of coolers and RV refrigerators at Portland. We can keep everything cold for you...   (-;

Seriously though, I know Duke energy here in North Carolina has some program for replacement though I think acts of God are excluded. Only negligence/equipment malfunction will be valid claims with Duke Energy I think.

Having said that I do know several local folks that have had the food in burnt-out deep freezers replaced/compensated without issue. I also knew of other friends and family members with other energy companies that have had similar compensation. Thankfully I’ve never had this happen to me so I have no personal knowledge or experience.

I would definitely look into it with your utility commission. I’m certain the energy company itself would not be very helpful in trying to find out what’s possible so go through the state commission.

I hope you can still make Portland.

Phil,

Sorry to hear of your misfortune and your having to cancel participating at Portland August show.

Phil and I had an enjoyable visit when he stopped in approx a year ago during his visiting his son living nearby.

No worries here. Nice day yesterday and today. Earlier in the week I lost power for most of the day.

Power went off and came back on three times in less than a minute, then went off and stayed off.

When power came back on, everything seemed fine. The next day I opened the freezer to get some

ice and was greeted with water in the ice trays. The power outage killed my fridge. That is going to

put the kibosh on my plans to come to Portland this year. That fun money is now going to a new fridge.

Exciting weather here last night (SW Houston suburb). We were out and just got some rain, and missed

a small tornado nearby that took out power to thousands in area for a while. Tops broke off of some

power poles, farm sheds with roofs scattered about, and some tree and fence damage. Fortunately

our house kept power. Early morning reports were about 2200 without power, 4050 without power later

morning, and now down to about 1500 without power. My toy shed and surrounding neighborhood about

a mile from our house had been without power for 20 hours.
