[AT] Trip

Hi all,
I know that this is way late, but I thought I would post this anyway.
I had a wonderful trip to Georgia to visit family. One of the greatest
highlights of the whole trip was meeting up with Herb! My Uncle Kirk
and I went down on Friday and got to meet both Herb and his Wife. Such
wonderful people!
Herb gave us a history lesson about the Allis tractors that he had at
his place. My favorite was an Allis G that he had with a loader. I
have never seen one of those loaders like that Herb. I did get a
chance to share the history lesson with my grandfather also. He is 81,
and has way more experience than I do with this old iron, and even he
didn't know that they made a loader for a G. (I couldn't believe I
knew something that he didn't). :)
He also told us about the scale model he made. What a neat deal!Also
was nice to listen to Herb talk about
 his gardens. That, too, would keep somebody busy.
We also chatted about the time in the Navy that he served. One of the
things I really enjoy most about these conversations is the
opportunity to get so much history from the people who saw these
things. History books only tell the story how the author chooses. The
real way to hear the story is to chat with Herb's generation. Sadly,
the younger generation of folks don't take some time to do that.
(Except a few of us). Instead, they are worried about their cell
phones, video games, etc.

My family down there and I decided that we would try to make this an
annual vacation, (to have Tyler come visit), and I hope that we can
make the visit with Herb and his wife an annual event on that
vacation. It was sure fun to finally meet someone in person from the
list! :)
