[AT] 430V update

All Right. This is super. That is a great video. And IMHO the best part of
this hobby. Getting a tractor to run the first time. I would suggest
getting the tractor to run at the highest acceptable temperature. 205
degrees or so and maybe 220 if you have a 50:50 mix of antifreeze in it.
Just before it starts to boil. If it's not running at that temperature
normally cover the grill to find the right amount of cover. The 430 engine
normally runs hot. Then try to find a way to get the tractor to really work.
PTO or drawbar. Try to maintain that load for at least 1/2 hour. I have
learned that pulling the tractor in gear with Diesel fuel in the crankcase
for several 1000 feet reduces this struggle with stuck rings. But running
under full load at the highest acceptable temperature and then letting it
cool overnight and then repeating the process again a few times should
eventually break the rings loose. It is very important to get the full
temperature range from 200 plus down to evening ambient. The metal expansion
and contraction is what is going to break loose the rings unless they are
really rusted tight. If this doesn't work as well as expected then an oil
additive may be required. Right now I don't remember if JD was still using
cast iron pistons in the 430. JD switched to aluminum pistons in the
Waterloo made 20 and 30 series but I don't remember if they did the same on
the Dubuque made tractors.

Also keep mind some of the oil getting through to the combustion chamber may
be coming from the piston/cylinder that was stuck. It is going to take a
while for that cylinder wall and associated piston rings to get cleaned up
and reseated. If a ring/ piston ring land or more got damaged when breaking
it loose then ...... we won't go into that right now.

Good news is: it runs! Here's the video:

Bad news is it is pumping oil quite a bit as you can tell from the video.
So the rings are still stuck. So I am running it at varying speeds for 5-10
minutes and letting it cool down. I have done that 3 times. So it did not
rake the hay today. Plus there's an issue with my three point rake. It
requires stabilizer arms so that the rake doesn't swing too much. My
stabilizers did. It fit do I did not put the 430 on the rake - maybe next
year.

The oil pumping has already improved some. So I feel pretty confident taking
my time will correct the problem.

Since I raked, baled, and put up 206 bales of hay today I have not put much
time in the 430. Once the the dew lifted and I could work the hay the
tractor was neglected.

get everything buttoned up on the tractor until very late tonight. So it's
a bit late too late to start a loud, straight pipe John Deere. Plus there's
no way I could get a good video for Tyler in the dark.

I can sneak away from my computer just long enough to try to start it. If
the gods are smiling on me, I hope to be able to rake hay with the tractor.
