Got the hay field mowed, and then went back in the shop.  Just cleaned up and organized to get ready for the next phase.  One long session and I should be ready to try to start it. I have valve adjustments, timing and fewer things that I want to do while I have stuff apart but I should be good to go - all other systems seem great. Even the carb looks to have been recently rebuilt.

Which brings me to a question: does anyone know what size group the battery is in these John Deere's?  The battery tray looks too small for the NAPA 6 V batteries I have. I didn't uninstall any of my other batteries to check it but did measure them.  Looks like the John Deere lacks 1/2" for the battery's I normally get.

Also, I forgot to order the valve cover gasket when I ordered the oil pan gasket :-(   That is going to cost me a day or 3.   I hate getting older
