As the owner and operator of Oliver tricycles and IH too, my response is 
that they are very stable. The real key is how wide and tall are they. 
With 80" wheel spacing, all is quite happy unless you are in an 
inherently bad ground situation. I find crawlers to be most stable - 
especially Caterpillars as they have a lot of weight low and spread on a 
lot of track. Climbing a sidehill is scary no matter what on a wheel 
tractor, but the most dangerous is when there is a hole on a slanted 
situation. Driving on the road if the tractor steering is not worn out 
is actually easier.
