Speaking of flyovers...I missed this because I wasn't born but I've heard
the story so many times it feels like I was there.

When my Aunt and Uncle got married back in the mid 50's, they got married
at my Grandfathers house because my Grandmother was pretty ill at the time
and couldn't tolerate or attend a large wedding. It is a huge old Southern
plantation style home, built originally in 1825. My Uncle was not long out
of the Service, and still had good friends in Service.

After the wedding the small wedding party had come outside on the veranda
to see the Bride and Groom off on their honeymoon. They say my Grandmother
had made it to her rocker out there and they were throwing rice and what
not when they heard a steady rumble building from the west, Just as they
were supposed to be getting in the car one of my Uncles buddies did a
flyover, I guess in a Sabre or something similar from McEntire Air Base in
Columbia.

Everyone there swears he could not have been 50ft above the treetops and as
he crossed he hit the afterburners and pulled straight up and vanished in a
banking climb! My Grandad was first pissed thinking he'd set the pines on
fire, then realized my Grandmother had fainted right in her chair. It was
hours before they discovered all the broken window panes and rehung a lot
of the pictures on the walls.

People talked and still talk about it decades later, and according to my
Grandad my Uncle never would tell him which friend did it. He did joke with
my Grandad that the friend had been a guest at Grandad's table many times
since the incident, but they'd never ratted the guy out.
