Enjoy the Ram, lot of them in our area.  Nice looking trailer also.  Rather 
than speculate, will ask; what was JD reasoning for the horizontal muffler?
George Willer would have reminded us of JD sound, "pop;  pop;  nothing; 
nothing".
>From mid 40's to early 50's, I spent many hours most every year on neighbors 
JD A &  JD B; they were good tractors.  At that time, JD had the best rear 
wheel brakes (and our Case was among the poorest).
