I have always liked to buy local and support local business.
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, they don't seem to stock much
anymore. At least half the time it's (we can order). A couple of months
I needed something and they said it would be 5 days. My wife ordered it
online and I had it the next day. I get things like the blades for my
metal cutting bandsaw from ace, but they are slow as you need to order
a week ahead of time so I always try to keep one blade ahead, but that's
money I have to invest which the store should do. I too worry about
local people going out of business but much of it is their own fault.
We have been IH people for 4 generations. A couple of years ago I had a
project that I needed to finish on Saturday. I called the local dealer
and asked how later they were open. They said 2 P.M. . I got there at
12:20 and they were locked up ( I guess the owner thought it was slow so
might as well close. I went a half mile down the road to the JD dealer
who was open till 4 P.M. and bought $450 worth of hydraulic hose. They
are a bigger corporation type store as they have a dozen dealerships. I
asked the parts guy if they closed early if things got slow. He said
that if they got caught closing early they were fired. Now if I need
something that is not IH I find myself going to JD.
