[AT] Points

I have always thought that you are better off if the point contacts are dry.  The WD 40 will likely gum things up.

I use a decreasing contact cleaner.  A business card pulled between the points will work to clean them.  If they are pitted replace and and the capacitor.

Thanks Ralph.  For the record I'm still using the original 6V system, and
it still charges the battery fine.  This ignition set is not very old in
terms of running hours.  I think perhaps I might have been the one who
installed it, could have been 10+ years ago.  At that time the tractor
still belonged to its previous owner (the father of a close friend of
mine).  I was often the one who was called upon when it needed tinkering.
Most likely John Deere branded replacment parts, because that's how the
previous owner works.  I'd be surprised if the tractor has 10 running hours
on it since this ignition set was installed.  I use it mainly to move snow
if the piles get really big, which they do only once or twice every 3-4
years.  I have pulled a few stumps with it, and pulled a couple neighbors
stuck machinery.  It's fun to own but you don't exactly drive a crawler in
parades!
