If you could get by with just a head and pan gasket, it might save a lot 
of time and trouble to just pull the head and use the Wooden block & 
hammer method.  If you can get a block of hard wood turned to just fit 
inside the cylinder, it might help to prevent breakage of the piston.  
Also, I have a large 8 or 10 lb shot hammer that I use for driving 
sleeves and bushings and pistons.  It seems to deliver a better blow to 
whatever I am striking.   I always use something between it and the head 
as it is polyurethane..
