I'm amazed that a growing number of doctors are thinking that way - without
the caveat that the side effects can be debilitating!
I'm a case in point - signed with a doc some years ago who said right out he
was a 'pill pusher'..fine by me if that happens to cure me!
Quite some time later I noticed that the joints where hurting, and at the
time, was operating an open cab D6 and D7 in a local quarry ( at night
yet...burrr!) And simply getting on the dozer was painful. Being in my mid
fifties at the time - and with a work history of tile setting - I thought ,
well, this is what getting old is all about, quit whining and got on with
things.
Fast forward a couple of years and I was getting cramps all over, at weird
times... and the doc ( now a very young Chinese woman) was of no help,
prescribing something that was to relieve the cramps - which it did not.
After a couple episodes of waking up in the middle of the night with cramps
in my back(!!) I finally got serious and did the research, finding that my
symptoms matched known side effects.
Quit the statin and in 2 days the cramps left, and in a week was feeling
MUCH better overall, including joints. Now the doc was back in the loop,
trying different statins, with the bad stuff coming right back pronto. So
now my chart says I'm allergic to statins, and I've promised to cut back on
the red meat....can't say with certainty that I've actually done that, but
my levels are below Kaisers max...
Along similar lines, there was a years long study released last year that
indicated that the thinking about cholesterol was simply incorrect, but I've
not heard any more about that....
Tractor reference / question...did I see that the Tulare (California) Ag
show was last week?? If so, it slipped by me once again.... there's a Ford
8600 locally that would make a nice project but that might be a little more
than I want to tackle, size wise, at the moment...so I'm looking!

Exactly. My cousin is one that has to have a statin - and in that case
it is great. I've been reading a lot of research when some doctors
advocate all adults should take a statin - on that they have not
convinced me.
