[AT] I want this!

There is a class of motorhomes called "expedition class" that are
made for traveling in South America, Mexico or places like Africa.
I don't know much about them other than a little I've seen online
and on TV but about a year ago I saw one here in my home town.
It was a tandem axle 6 wheel drive Unimog, brand spanking new,
with a stout looking camper body about 30' long sitting atop it.

The chassis of the truck was at least 3 feet above the highway.  It had
huge off road tires on it and two spares attached to a swing down rack above 
the
cab.  It also had a sort of a stair case and deck folded up on top that 
appeared as
if it would swing out and down.  I found one like it on the internet and 
apparently
it costs about half a million bucks.   It was at a gas station on the 
highway that goes
from here to the Morehead City Port facility.  I can only imagine that it 
just came off
or was about to go on a ship headed for somewhere.

I think I have a picture of it somewhere.  If I find it I'll try to post it. 
I don't want to over
state it but when I said the chassis was 3 feet off the ground I think in 
truth it was 4' or more.
I remember thinking that I could bend over and walk under it.  The thing 
was basically a
monster truck motorhome.

My Air Force unit in Germany had a few Unimogs when I was stationed there in 
the late 1980s, and my recollection is they were sort of highway capable: 
50-60 mph or so, although as Gene pointed nobody bought them for the smooth 
ride.    Hell for stout tough, is what I mostly remember.
