[AT] Late JD B Camshaft Removal

Al,

I've been on the road so I may be missing some critical data. We can assume
that you cannot rotate the crank after you have removed the rod caps and
bolts? Correct? Are you sure you won't be able to rotate the crank a little
bit when you start pulling the block away from the main case? It would seem
to me that after pulling the block away from the main case a little bit that
when one crank journal is tight against the rod bearing that the other rod
should be loose enough to come away from the crank journal. Then you should
be able to turn the crank to get the other rod away from the crank journal?
Its been awhile since I've had a B apart and then it was an earlier B so I
don't know if things are a tighter fit or not. Removing the cam bearing
and disengaging it from the gear is a PITA. Would it be possible to just
loosen up the two main bearings and move them back a little. You probably
are going to have to re-grind the crank shaft anyway so you are not wasting
any effort. The holes that will be come open when you loosen the main
bearings are quite large and will allow you to move the crankshaft around
quite a bit. My mind is a little dull after driving 7 hours so I may not be
thinking straight.
