Cecil, that is the same issue that the 02 to 05? Toyota 2.2L engines had. I bought a Camry for my daughter to take to college that I thought just had a bad head gasket. After buying it and a little research I found this issue.
The consensus on the Toyota’s is either Timeserts (http://www.timesert.com/) or NS300L (http://www.huhnsolutions.com/) kits are the preferred fix. I did read about someone who went with the studs with good results. The kit that I bought will do either the Toyota or Cadillac engine. It wasn’t a terrible job and if I were to stumble across another Toyota for the right price I’d do it again. Although this time I’d pull the engine first. Leaning over the fenders drilling and taping isn’t all that fun after a few hours.
So not a direct response to your Cadillac question. In the end doing the repair I now know what I have anyway. So far over the past couple years it’s held up well.

I am sure some of you have some knowledge about the Northstar 4.6L 32V
engine. My MIL dented in the entire passenger side of her 99 Deville
with 128000 miles. I found a 989 for parts, but after inspection, it is
in better shape than hers and as 53000 less miles. It is like new
inside and out. However, it has the head gasket problem typical of
Northstar engines. I would like to repair this car with the head bolt
kit made to solve the problem. Has anyone done this? A rebuilt engine
is $3600 shipping inc, or if I get the car to Pembquin ND, then they
will R&R the engine for the same price.
Any advice. Personally I do not like cars, but this one really felt
good to my old broken back!!
