I'm not at all familiar with that engine but putting a head
gasket on a diesel is a bit more complex than putting one on
a gasser.  Same process but higher torque on the head bolts
and sometimes the head bolts need to be replaced. Still it sounds
like a nice project.

My take was if its just a blown gasket you can crank it up and run it 
long enough to find out the trouble. Even if the head is cracked, it's 
still a reasonable deal with not too much work to get it going. It's 
been a mighty long time since I have seen a running, inexpensive, field 
ready M. I'll keep my ears open for him though.
