Aren't those "start on gas/switch to diesel" engines prone to head cracking?

John I was thinking the same thing but the next line after that is 
"oh, I thought it was just a blown head gasket". Could be a broken 
piston or major valve train damage or bad rings or any number of 
things depending on the symptoms. Still That is a fairly rare machine 
compared to a Super M and if I was an IH guy and wanted a project 
I'd be tempted. Of course Al isn't looking for a project. He wants 
something 
he can put in the field soon!

Yeah thats the one. If all it needs is a head gasket the price isn't 
bad, I'd think you could fix it for less than $150. Pretty much 
everything I have seen is $3k or more unless you can deal with an H, 
there are a couple of them floating around under $2k
