I wonder how rough sawed oak would hold up? Find a local mill, and 
they'll cut it to whatever thickness you'd like. I bought some for a 
barn project from a local guy and it was surprisingly cheap for what I 
got. Sometimes if you take some odd sizes they can't get rid of you can 
get it really cheap.
