[AT] synthetic oil - gas versus diesel trucks

I agree about the noisy part of the diesels. However, after driving my
truck since 2003 I have gotten used to it and doesn't bother me anymore.
The JD 750 with the YanMar 3 cylinder diesel is another story. It is noisy
upon start up but I fired it up once when the temps were in the 20's and it
really startled me. I thought the pistons were going to change holes and
come out the side of the block. I'll admit I hadn't run a diesel engine
since I left the farm in the 50's but the noise that YanMar diesel engine
made on a cold startup really got my attention. Way way worse than my Ford
250 diesel engine. But... I guess I really don't care about that noise much
anymore because it has been such a reliable engine for me. It helps when
you get older and the hearing gets worse too. Just had cataract surgery on
both eyes and accused my wife of having changed the lights in the kitchen
while I was having surgery. It is amazing how a slow reduction in light can
become normal to the mind.

It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

John,
While I agree, I look at it differently. I have to drive a diesel powered
truck to buy groceries(which doesn't always work out). I'll be damned if I
am going to be around one of those noisy, smelly, expensive contraptions
just to drive somewhere. I have had that opinion for near
40 years now.
