[AJD] Stupid questions 6v vs 12v B

All of my JD tractors from 1947 up are 12v. Look in your op manual, it will tell you. Your 51B probably had 2 6v batt's in series. Gen should have a tag on it stating voltage. Looks like somebody stuck a 6v coil on by mistake or stupidity. Volt reg should have volts on it some where. Look up JD Tractor Data, it will tell you also. Vern

Subject: [AJD] Stupid questions 6v vs 12v B

Ok y'all. I have some stupid questions.

How do you tell if a tractor has been changed to 12v? The people who did the work on the tractor aren't here anymore so I can't ask. It has a 12v battery but a 6v JD coil. I can't see anything on the alternator/generator as it is heavily painted. There is a white ballast above the coil. That cuts voltage, correct?

The tractor is a 51 B.

Help!

If it isn't 12v, I want to move it there.
