Search YouTube for "forestry mulchers" you'll see what I mean. They come in all sizes and I'd bet theirs a contractor near you that wii ake short work of 2.5 acres.

There is a tool used around here that looks like a rotovator on steroids with big carbide teeth. Sometimes mounted on excavators and sometimes on big skid steers that makes short work of that kind of root mat.
