I use a similar preservative on my grain auger. Outdoor storage after 
handling dry fertilizer is a recipe for rust.
So I clean it off with air first and then use the spray cleaning gun to 
spray used motor oil on as much of the auger
and hopper as I can. I think it helps quite a bit.  I've even done it to 
the under side of some of my rusty old vehicles.
