Joe,

There were only 42 430V's sold in the 1959 Model year and only 21 in the 1960 Model year. That is considered very RARE! The lowest production of any 430 other than the 430 Holt Fork Lift versions. The 430 Special(V) is a High Clearance version of the 430 Standard, the Special was used where late cultivation of crops on high beds was a necessity, such as cotton, peppers, sweet potatoes, etc. The 430 High Crop was used where high and wide clearances were needed with a wide range of tread adjustment, The High Crop was used primarily in vegetable crops and small sugar cane operations. There were 212 403 HC made vs 63 430 V's. If that tractor is in decent shape be prepared to end up with a value in the $15,000 to $20,000 fully and correctly restored.!!!! I have a reference to all serial numbers for 430V's starting at Serial number 140557 to 156095 for the 1959 model year and Serial # 158098 to 161016. The reference included Build Date, Ship Date, Build Code and Notes for each and every 430V shipped. Serial # 141500 was Built9/30/58, Shipped 10/23/58. Has Build Codes N, D, 2, 3, 10. With No Notes. I believe the Build codes mean as follows:

N= 5.00-15 4-Ply Tire front wheels  and 10-34 4-ply tire Rear Wheels
D= Lighting Attachment, including Red Taillight
2= ?
3= Anti- Freeze
10= Five Speed Transmission only

I'm not 100% sure these Build Code Definitions are accurate.

I would say you have found a real GEM!!!!

It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Subject: [AT] John Deere 430 special

I came across a John Deere 430V, serial #141500 in good condition under a cover. The "V" indicates a special. Does anyone know what makes this tractor special? Also, anyone know how many of these were made? Thank you. Joe Hardisky, Ryman Farm, Dallas, PA _______________________________________________
