[AT] Magnetic Lights

Dennis,

Thank You for confirming that there is a DOT regulation that comes into play after 80" I suspected that but didn't know the actual rules My trailer does have the center cluster lights and the conspicuity tape on the sides and rear. However, I have always felt a little nervous about how far my taillights are under the bed of the trailer. If you get too close from behind, the lights are blocked by the bed of the trailer. I'm thinking of adding these lights to give more visibility. We will see.

It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Dean

Regulations add 3 bulb center cluster clearance lights when over 80" wide.
Also add conspicuity tape when over 80" wide.
What they are saying is the kit does not include this center cluster light, and it is not legal without it.

You can add you own cluster light And conspicuity tape to make it legal.

Some on the cheaper small trailer companies do not include this on new trailers. When I bought my last trailer I had to take a copy of DOT regs to the trailer manufacturer to get these lights included. You can see several trailers that do not comply, but that does not mean that they are legal.

Thanks
Dennis

"For towing applications up to 80 in. wide" My 20' equipment trailer with currently working lights is 102" wide which is maximum legal width. Don't understand the 80" limitation? Does it have to do with running/clearance lights required after 80" width? I have those on my trailer but????

When I go to shows I always carry two sets—one for my trailer (if need be) and one for whoever’s trailer is having light problems. For nine bucks it’s a REAL good buy!
