Gil, I can only imagine the loss you must feel. I never met Vera but the
strength of your
relationship was apparent from your writings over the years. Both of you
are in my
thoughts and prayers. Hopefully one day soon medical science will beat
this terrible
thing called cancer.

God Bless and Keep you Gil.

Charlie

I do not know just where to start this, but I feel like you should know. I
find it very difficult to talk about it as well as even think about it. My
beloved wife of 46 years passed away September 6, 2015 at 4:45 PM.
February 2 of last year, she became very tired and went to her doctor who
put her in the hospital. She received two units of blood, and after three
days, went home. In about 10 days, she again felt very tired and again went
to her doctor who immediately put her back in the hospital. This time, she
received four units of blood and an appointment to enter a research
hospital. That hospital immediately diagnosed her with multiple myeloma, a
cancer of the white blood cells. She was then sent to a cancer specialist at
another cancer hospital. The cancer specialist, after a multitude of tests,
agreed with the diagnosis and said that the multiple myeloma was indeed
present and centered in the top of her skull. He started immediate
treatment, and about the middle of August, the cancer specialist said she
appeared to be in partial remission. Shortly after that, she began to lose
her ability to function. 10 days before she passed she did not know anyone
or recognize anything.
She knew a lot of you folks, meeting you at Portland. She spoke of you
often, having enjoyed the Back 40 get togethers. Keep her in your thoughts
and prayers.
It has been a difficult trip.
