Hi Charlie:
Sorry about your mom, I know how much of your life she has been for some
time.
I lived about four hundred feet from my folks for some time and you don't
just visit now and then. They are a more direct part of your life than that.
My parents both suffered from Alzheimer's for years before they passed.
Congestive heart failure took my father before the very worst of the
dementia back about 1995. My mother rode the Alzheimer train all of the way
to the end and ran through the stops about 2007. While it was a loss we had
already said goodbye a few years before. When I miss them the most yet is
when I think of some question I wish I could ask somebody.
I'm the oldest surviving male in my clan by a number of years. I have only
one sibling, an older sister who has lived out of state for many years.
Sadly she is in mid-stage Alzheimer's and does not function at all well now.
If I failed to learn something family or farm related from them it is lost
forever now as there is no one else living that remembers. All aunts, uncles
and all cousins of my generation are all gone. I work very hard at getting
what I know documented and passed along with the younger family.
As you and Lynn shift now to concerns with Lynn's parents be sure that you
make time for Charlie and Lynn too... It's important.
