Spencer,  I knew you meant it metaphorically but given that your
friend was a green beret I suspect he experienced it in all connotations.

After reading my quote of my friend, I realized that in written form my 
friend's advice sounded literal.  He always meant it metaphorically. It was 
his intent to convey that "mad" does resolve an adversarial situation and in 
fact often plays into your adversary's plan:   A cool head combined with 
strategy and execution resolves these things in your favor.

Just thought I should clear that up!
