Agreed with Brad.  The email list is easy because it shows up automatically.  And my personal situation, that isn't going to be true for everyone, is that I already have a variety of compelling reasons to visit Facebook for other interests and activities, so it is easy, too.  In contrast, a forum requires something proactive from me (that is, remembering to visit!) and it won't get done.  Just the way it is for me personally.  

I think we should be very clear that no one is suggesting that the email list be replaced by Facebook.  Facebook would be supplemental.  I suppose that if habits develop toward Facebook that it could possibly replace the forum but never the email list.
