[AT] OT pocket knives

I inherited my grandfathers Case three bladed pocket knife and I carried it
for many years. I think it may be called a "Stockman" model. I too had
issues with the blades rusting because they are not stainless but man, will
those blades take and hold an edge! at the time that knife was made the
last blade material you wanted would be stainless (This was the 60's-70's).

That knife was also heavy, and routinely wore a hole in my jean pockets so
it got retired to the dresser.

I carry a Buck Knight 505 daily now for the last 15 or so years

It is small but that's a good thing. The blade will take and hold an edge
well and I use it probably 20 times a day for various tasks. I feel more
naked without that knife than I do without a wristwatch on days I forget
it. I have a Gerber and a Kershaw in about the same iteration but they do
not have the same balance to them.

I carry a Gerber multi-tool when off-shore fishing or for tinkering- it
compliments the blade of the Buck well.

My father had a couple of pet peeves and knives were one- if he saw anyone
use the blade as a screwdriver or a gasket scraper you better look out!
Another one was Crescent Wrenches. In his opinion, if you grabbed a
crescent wrench you might as well stop the job and hire someone who knew
what they were doing. There is some wisdom to be found in that.
