Steve,  I wonder if the guys that wrote the regs will come down here and 
help me
find the caps that blow off of mine on hot days.  Half of my cans no longer 
have a
cap.  I figured it had to do with emissions...... idiots!

The EPA pushed through new standards which led to the new "automatic"
nozzles.
The new standards call for fuel storage containers to be unable to vent
to the atmosphere while not in active use. It also states that the pour
spout and venting device must also be automatic closing devices that
cannot become accidentally opened.

I actually agree with the idea behind it, walking into a hot building
where you forgot to put the vent cap back on or it popped off can be a
bit overwhelming. That and not losing the cap or vent cover is handy.

I just think the design they came up with sucks.

I install new vents and use "water can" spouts. MUCH better.
