I drill a hole and insert a 1/4 inch radiator drain for gasoline cans. For diesel fuel I use a tubeless tire valve with the core removed and capped with the valve cap. Can’t use them for gasoline as the ethanol dissolves the rubber.

I use my 5 gallon oil buckets for fuel and just drill a 7/32 hole and use a 1/4 inch bolt with the threads cut off.

Haven’t had any experience with new style cans.

I just make a 1/4" hole with a hand drill (less fire) in the back / top of
the handle and force thread a 5/16" cap screw into the hole. It's easy to
unscrew it by hand to vent and then put it back in by hand. It fits well
enough that it keeps water out.
