Happy New Year to Everyone.
Charlie, I know what you are talking about. Bud, my old dog when I was a 
young guy on the farm, was just an average size dog, but would take on 
anything I 'sicked him onto'. For obvious reasons, I never took advantage of 
that. But come a lightning/thunder storm and Bud would try crawling under a 
pile of fenceposts or the lowest thing around or between my legs. Soon as 
the storm was over, he was ready to go again. Petting/consoling was the only 
thing that reduced his tensions/concerns.

I spent the ringing in of the New Year consoling two shaking dogs
scared by the fireworks.  Otherwise I would have been sound asleep!
