Trust me, I won't be chunking the old carb. In the event the one I'm fixing 
doesn't work, I'll be boring and sleeving it just as you said!

I got the old one welded today. He looked at it and mumbled something about 
some silicone bronze filler rod would be great to use. I just nodded my 
head, like I've got an opinion that matters when you're dealing with a 
welder that has been at it for over 40 years!

I would love to have the opportunity to humble myself and take a few lessons 
from him! He's melted metal together by about any means possible.

No I didn't forget you are a machinist.  I just thought my suggestion
sounded better that saying "why the hell don't you just fix it"  LOL.
I know you'll figure it out.
