Caps are usually fairly easy to remove (4 C-clamps or bolts). Could you 
remove bolts and lift the cap the 2" you need to remove the trunk?

Gene the thing is i can,t get to that panel. The old trunk is just in
side of bed with cap over it need 2 in more to get it out.
