[AT] Welding Advice

I heard from a friend this morning that there is a pending class action
suit against a cholesterol drug whose name most would recognize because
it is alleged that the drug causes the patient to develop diabetes. I'd
tell
you the name of the drug but I don't want them coming after me.

Been diabetic for 21 years. I went from no meds to insulin over night. Part
of the standard treatment for diabetes is blood pressure and cholesterol
meds, whether you need them or not. My blood pressure runs low to start
with, on meds it was dangerously low. Doc finally pulled me off of them--15
years ago. Now the docs all want me on cholesterol meds. Its 3 on 1--me vs.
my regular DR, heart DR, and endocrinologist. I'm still resisting until they
show me results where my cholesterol is too high, then we will talk. The one
thing me and the DRs agree on is I need to exercise. Being a workaholic
doesn't count they tell me. Unfortunately I'm too lazy to exercise, but I do
agree with them I should do it. I don't smoke, drink, and am not overweight.
About the only thing they can fuss at me about is to consume less caffeine,
exercise more, and eat more vegetables.

The only recommendation I have for folks dealing with health issues is to
make sure you and your DR mesh well. Between me and my dad I've encountered
tons of Drs. If the 2 of you aren't seeing eye to eye, find another Dr. That’s
not to say be bullheaded and look for one that doesn't give a flip about you
outside of getting paid, find one that genuinely cares about your opinion
and well being. Fortunately we are in a town big enough to have tons of DRs
to choose from, most are affiliated with Duke Hospital.

If it doesn't warm up today like the weather guys say it is supposed to,
I'll get a shovel and start removing the ice skating rink in front of my
garage---that should count for exercise!

OK, I'll jump on here as I am old enough to have to take a pill or two to
stay alive (or so I'm told). I'm a firm believer that genetics has more to
do with it than anything else. My grandparents died in their early 60's due
to heart failure, they didn't smoke and weren't overweight, just bad
genetics. Fast forward 40 years, I have two brothers they are "normal", I
work out three days a week, don't carry any excess weight and feel great, my
blood work says I live the life of a sedentary obese person, and I should be
dead in my early 60's just like my grandparents.

So it's pills for me, after going through a few, I am now on Vascepa, which
is a clinical strength fish oil. Best damn thing I ever took, no side
effects, and no more joint pain. You might want to look into it. BTW, I'm
only 45 and hope I can hang on for a few more years.

Enjoy, Joe
