[AT] shipping wars

John:
This happens a lot when you take advantage of the free shipping
advertised with a minimum purchase. I ordered a starter for my new
Arctic Cat 700 from DB electrical before Christmas. I took advantage of
the free shipping they had. They ship UPS "Smart"Post when it is free
shipping for another $4 I could have had UPS. I thought the way it was
presented on the Website that UPS was extra, and they would send it
priority mail or Fed Ex their option. Well, Of course the mailman shows
up and I am not within hearing distance of the mickey mouse horn on
the c contract carrier's vehicle, and I got a slip to take to the P.O.
next day. I tried to find the carrier on her route, and went to the
P.O. To find how she delivered... No help... I was told that they
would call if she returned before the P.O. closed.. Nope, not again..
Postmaster would not call the carrier to find her location on her
route. Said no knew if she had a phone!!! They are beginning to get
testy like they are going to call the local Barney Fife because I am not
giving up.... I gave up.. Showed up the next day on Saturday!! P.O.
was packed. When It came my turn, they could not find the package and
said I would have to sign the slip and ave it delivered that day.. I
signed it and wrote on it to leave it in the mailbox if I was not there,
and had another patron sign it as witness.... It showed up at 2pm in
the mailbox....

Now, the reason this is so ingrained in my memory and my blood pressure
is up while writing this:

This ATV was a 2012 model bought in February 14, 2014 for my wife. She
was recovering from Open heart surgery and this machine had power
steering. It was a 700cc machine, with only 15 miles. The reason it had
not been sold was the fender was scraped and the seat material had
shrunk from sun exposure.. I bought it for nearly $2000 less than a
current 500cc model... It appeared to be a good deal. It took a month
to get the title from the dealer... I had to call Arctic Cat factory
to get them off their butts. I also found out a month later that the
warranty was only 6 months. My 2007 366 Arctic Cat had a 5 yr
warranty.( it was made in Korea, the 700 was made in USA!!) It had some
leaks that I had another dealer repair before the warranty ran out...
On Black Friday I was trying to get my cows out of a wheat field after
they ran over me when I went through the gate, and the over running
clutch that gives the atv its engine braking feature stuck. I could
only drive in reverse and the engine would die when I stopped... I was
nearly a mile away and through 4 gates.... It took an hour to get back
home. I talked to the dealer who did the warranty work and he said he
could get to it in about 2 weeks if it was setting on his lot... He did
offer that I could take that overrunning clutch out... I bought a new
gasket from him the next day. It took 6 hours to get to the clutch to
remove it, and when I got everything put together, the starter quit.
The brushes were worn out and there is supposed to be no rebuilding
kit. Arctic Cat wanted over $200 for the starter and it would take a
week to get it... DB electrical could ship out the same day I ordered
it.. It took 5 days with UPS "smart" post....

That is why I remember it so well and will not use that D@$#%d "Smart"
post if I know about it.......

Sorry for the rant, I hope it prevents someone else from a coronary....

> No, not the TV show, more like me and the post office. Its hard to work on tractors when those guys keep losing my parts. Today is the second package in 2 weeks they have lost. The first was lost in Louisiana, the second in Indiana. Basically they make it from the shipper to the post office and then vanish. I don’t know why they offer tracking services, because their response is “we know it’s priority mail, but you need to wait at least 2 weeks before filing a lost package claim”. They do not believe in manually trying to find a package that has disappeared, at work we have more than once had UPS do that if it gets put on the wrong truck. From here on out I’ll just specify UPS. Anyone else have bad luck with the postal service? I think the only time I’ve ever had a problem with UPS was I ordered a part 2nd day and it did not show up till 8 at night because it was not being delivered to a business address.
