Weather warnings for the ice storm that may hit within the next 24 hours 
here.  Tractors are fueled up, 4KW, 8KW, and 60KW generators are fueled 
up and waiting.  Hopefully it will miss us, but we are on the border 
between ice and sleet.   It can change at a moments notice.  I cleared 
the fence rows last week but moved the cows into the middle pasture and 
off the wheat yesterday.   Built a windbreak and bedding area with hay 
bales on end and filled feeders with hay the day before yesterday.  We 
don't have anything here like Ralph does, but the wind and freezing rain 
can create a wind chill down to zero for animals.  We try to make sure 
they have plenty of hay and protein, then supplement with carbs for 
extra heat..   I would rather not run the 60KW Onan very long, as it 
likes fuel!  The little 8KW with the 2cyl Allis engine uses about 1/2 
gallon an hour versus the 3 gph of the Onan..

My neighbors will just sit around and bitch about not having power....
