What I find strange is the fact that where I had the most problems doing 
the "zipper merge" was in the state of Minnesota that advocates the 
zipper merge.  Once I even sat for around 20 minutes until another truck 
stopped the other lane for me so I could merge. All the while, autos 
were merging but never leaving enough room for me.  That is when I 
decided, "NEVER AGAIN".
Here at Sioux City there is ongoing work on I-29.  I imagine it will be 
ongoing for 30 years if it is anything like Sioux Falls.  I happen to 
know all the ways to avoid I-29 at Sioux City, as that is my home area.  
And I avoid it at all costs.  Every afternoon the traffic is stopped on 
that highway somewhere.  Zipper gets stuck, I guess.:-)
