Missouri has added signs saying "Use all lanes to merge", but until now, I didn't have a clue what that meant.  From what I see, nobody else does either.  2 semi's will run side-beside and block late mergers, often leaving a big gap in front of them, but they keep moving, not stopping and starting.

efficient for traffic flow. A few years ago, NY State police and local cops
were considering the late merge as aggressive driving and sometimes
ticketing.  One of the local stations had interviews from both organizations

This is why you need to take a class the guy who waits for the last minute
to merge is doing the right thing! Look up the zipper merge and be
enlightened.
