Actually Dennis, now that I think about it,  I believe there is a way around 
it for me.
Since I have a Class A I believe I am legal to drive a farm owned truck as 
long as it
is not "for hire" and I'm "working" for the farm.  If that is the case, I 
have a friend that
would let me take his farm truck and I guess I could actually, legally drive 
it to the testing
center.

I also got my CDL a long time ago, and did not have to do the drivers test 
due to "grandfather" clause. My original CDL was when I was driving taxi in 
college.
Around here there are several companies that  offer "rent my truck for CDL 
test" where they guarantee that the truck passes. Several of these companies 
also offer classes including driving classes. When you go with them, it may 
help with the testing since many of these instructors know the state 
troopers who did the testing. Here there are 1 or 2 of these companies that 
operate out of the parking lot at the testing center.
My son rented one of these trucks when he did his test a few years back - 
think it was $250 / $300 range for the truck plus the instructor needed to 
ride with him between the location of the truck rental center and the driver 
testing area.
