Well, another day shot trying to get this wheat field ready and
planted... hooked up the 8345 Belarus to the 8 ft Roto-tiller. ried to
heat and loosen up the Belarus Top Link. Finally heated it up to cherry
red and stuck it in a bucket of used oil. Still in there, may be for a
while... Belarus lift arms are shorter than US tractors. I have
intended to get a pair of those Pat's Quick couplers to put on the end
of the arms and then they will be about he normal length. Because of
this the top link is shorter than normal.. The top link is also not a
cat 1 at the tractor end, but it is nearly Cat 1...!!!! D@#$ Metric...
I used a Cat 2 old orig MF top link with a bushing...
After 2 hours I got the tiller hooked up., Hooking up 3 pt equip with
a cab tractor requires 2 people, unless you have a quick hitch adapter,
and implement and tractor is on level ground. It also helps if one of
those people is about 18 yrs old too!!!
Sorry, I digress... Anyhow, hit the field and could only till 3 inches
deep. lengthened the lift links, shortened the top link, and tried
again. 4 inches maybe. The ground has dried out and the Belarus is not
slow enough in the lowest gear to give the tiller enough time to dig...
Gave up and decided to repair the broken discs and the bearing on the
16ft offset disk. I had ordered a complete set of bearings for the
1-3/4 axle on the disk. I should be prepared, right!!!!! Wrong!!!!
The disk bearings are 2-3/16 id, they fit on a sleeve that is between
the bearing spools. So, instead of $16 bearings, I need the $30
bearings. So, another 2 day wait for bearings. Here in OKC the price
is about $85 each.
Kabat american carries disk bearings at the best price on this side of
the Mississippi. It is one day shipping from Marion AR. Agri Supply is
the best on the East coast... Most all bearings come from China
nowadays, so I just try to find the cheapest china supplier. I need to
get this field disked before the big rain comes in on Saturday.. They
are predicting 1.5 in. I will still be a month behind on sowing...
Disk gang is torn down, just need to cut larger center hole in the discs
I have, and straighten the bearing bracket. The former owner used self
align bearings and the correct ones are not self align. They are 4 bolt
flange type encased in Nylon for shock absorption. This disk has had a
lot of abuse...
Instead of back to the drawing Board, it is back to the torch &
Welder!!!!!! I wish I had time to cut this disk down to where the disk
gangs were no wider than the frame.... I would have to either re-thread
the axle, or cut it off and weld a new Nut on the Head End. Since an
Offset disk does not need a smooth end on the convex end of the disk, I
could thread the other end, and then changing a bearing would be so much
easier.
Sorry for the ramble, Nerves in my back keep me awake, so I am thinking
out loud. If you talk to yourself, people think you are crazy. If you
do it on the internet, they call it a Blog...
