Thanks, gentlemen. Feels great to get to do some honest work with these old
tractors.

Chuck, you'd asked "Was kind of wondering what use is planned for the old
silo that appears through the trees." Good question, and I don't have any
immediate answer. It's inside the pasture used by most of the goats
(belonging to a guy who leases the pastures and some barns) so for the time
being it's serving as one end of a small fenced-in pen for the younger ones.

A while ago I wondered whether it could serve as a tower for some wind
turbines, since this area has enough wind to make them feasible, but some
Google searching didn't turn up any success stories and instead led to me
some sites that said the idea had been experimented with but apparently the
presence of the silo generates turbulence that interferes with the turbines.

I've seen an aerial photo of this place from about 1949 and I don't believe
that silo was in the picture (although I can't remember just now where I
filed that photo away, so I could be wrong). It's in a 1965 aerial photo,
but in that photo it doesn't have a cap on it--just the triangular
pyramid-shaped steel structure--exactly like it looks now. So I surmise
that it didn't have a long service life. Seems a shame, since it's a
colossal structure, absolutely solid, and will no doubt be standing there
for a long time yet to come.
