It sure works for me David.  I don't like doing it because the poor
dog looks right straight into the light and it can't be good for her
but a 2 am when she's waking up the whole neighborhood it solves
the problem.

I'm thinking I will as my Chow goes out at night and gets distracted by 
all the animal noise and movements - the cats, the cows, the deer and 
the coyotes.
