Well I thought I'd tell everyone that responded to my enquiry what I did.

A friend of mine who is semi-retired and does some mowing on the side
was telling me he had just bought a new Dixon ZTR mower. I asked him
where he got it and about the dealer and told him I was looking for a ZTR.
He said "I'll sell you my old one". It's a Dixon Ram 50 Mag. which is
from their commercial line. it's a 50" cut, powered by a 20 hp Kohler which
he just had
rebuilt by the dealer. The mower has been dealer serviced ever since he's
owned
it. If it coughs he takes it in to be checked. It runs like a top.
It's been garaged every night of it's life. Brand new belts and Dixon's
high end
Grizzly blades. The seat isn't even dirty. 674 hours on the meter.
He sold it to me for $800.00.

I mowed about an acre with it today. It's tight and smooth. Starts as soon
as
you bump the starter. No leaks, no smoke, no rattles. The paint is even
good
with only a few scraped up spots on the edges of the mower deck where it's
rubbed
stuff. I'm tickled. I figure if I can mow my yard all of this year with
out problems it won't
owe me a dime since it would cost me that much to hire this yard mowed for a
season.

Here's a link to one like it on the Dixon site.

They don't make that model any longer but the machines that replaced it are
almost identical.
