Yes, too much power can be a bad thing. I've powered my six foot Farm 
King with as little as the Cockshutt 40 and as much as the Case 2090. I 
have done more damage with the 2090. My mower has no shear pin, just a 
slip clutch. Even that was not enough to save it when I hit some bigger 
willows with the 2090 up front.. I discovered it had twisted the tubular 
drive shaft to the point that it would not telescope properly after 
that. No more 2090 on that mower.
