Dean – from experience, avoid anything made in China.  There is an Irish manufacturer that seems to have accurate reproductions.  I would agree with trying to find good used as opposed to new.  Whoever you buy from just question them as to the location of the manufacturer.   
    Serial number is not important – they are all the same except for the number series cubs.

Need to buy a new radiator core for a 1947/48 Farmall Cub. Anyone have a recommendation for a low cost
but decent quality vendor.  Prices range from $120 on up on eBay! Don't have a feel for quality being
sold on eBay!  If serial # is important I can retrieve that.
