Charlie,

I agree I would polish the Apple before trying to sell it. But we don't know
the situation that the seller was in. Maybe we are trying to apply logic
where logic doesn't apply! :-)

I agree Dean. It wouldn't stop me from buying it but in an
auction setting where you are looking for the high dollar
anything negative can affect that last bid. If I had been
selling it, I would have replaced that muffler.

Charlie,

Very observant. The holes do look to be where the spot welding may have
occurred for the internal
baffles. I suppose it is also possible that condensation settled at this
seam after running in cold
weather.
The Oval muffler part # AR20450 is available from JD for a nice tidy sum of
$204.33. Aftermarket Oval
mufflers with the correct baffling are available in the under $90 region on
eBay. I don't know if
the Seller decided that was too much money for a stinking replacement
muffler or not. Or if it just
wasn't important. I know if I had the money and desire to own that
particular tractor I would just
figure in the cost of a new muffler before I made an offer.

You've got me there Ralph. I'm sure Dean VP knows.
It looks to me like that muffler has a baffle in it and it
is starting to rust through where the baffle is welder or
otherwise against the outer shell because the problem
seems to be in a horizontal line in the same place on
both sides.

Very observant Charlie. I missed that completely. Did that series JD
tractors even have the oval muffler originally?

Ralph in Sask.
